About BPM & Key Detection

What is BPM?

BPM (Beats Per Minute) measures the tempo of a track. Essential for DJs, producers and musicians. Our analyzer uses Essentia's RhythmExtractor2013 with multifeature analysis — the same algorithm used in professional DJ software like Rekordbox and Traktor.

What is the Musical Key?

The musical key determines the tonal center of a song. We use Essentia's KeyExtractor algorithm with three independent key profiles (Temperley, Krumhansl, EDMA) and vote on the best match for maximum accuracy.

What is the Camelot Wheel?

The Camelot Wheel is a DJ harmonic mixing system. Each key gets a number (1–12) and letter (A=minor, B=major). Adjacent keys on the wheel mix harmonically for seamless transitions.

How accurate is this tool?

Our analyzer is powered by Essentia — an open-source audio analysis library developed by the Music Technology Group at Universitat Pompeu Fabra (Barcelona), also used by Spotify. BPM accuracy is typically ±1 BPM, key detection accuracy exceeds 80% on most popular music genres.
